You’ve got them, they exist. Those many to-do items that consist of people, tasks, and projects that do need to get done. The vision for your sphere of influence, on and on it goes, all good and necessary time needs.
Right now, let’s pull out your calendar, journal, or whatever you need to fully assess all the demands on your time. It can be overwhelming, right? So many opportunities to let others down or to let ourselves down, but it does not have to feel that way. In all actuality, you leader are not letting anyone down today. In truth, you are doing exceptionally well. How you may ask do I know this or what do I base this bold claim on? You are on Day Twenty today.
The fact that you understand the need to stay within the guard rails of responsible leadership behaviors for the sake of those you lead says you’ve got this. So, as you determine what five to-dos take priority this week, may I propose that you base your choices on the items that will have the most ‘bang for the buck’?
Are there little fires that you can hand-off to others to put out? Some of the fires with the highest risk for time waste are those little urgent distractions that take time away from the long-term important tasks. I know they are vying for your attention today because you are a leader and leaders are always at risk of getting distracted by the noise.
What five to-dos will allow you to feel on track and successful as a leader this week? Put another way, if you were suddenly gone (hit by life’s sky bus) what would you have done this week that set your team up for success to move forward without you? Put yet another way, what to-dos are items that you ‘really’ are the one called to do this week?
True, for any of us, if push comes to shove someone else can and will ultimately get done what needs to get done. That said, there are tasks that a leader such as you ‘really’ is best equipped to perform. So with that in mind, what are your most pressing to-do items this week?
